  • 1929 Nicolas Vlavianos is born on February 7th, in Athens, Greece.
  • 1956 Lives in Paris until 1961. Studies sculpture at the Académie de la Grande
    Chaumière, with the sculptor Zadkine. Produces his first works in welded
    iron at Lazslò Szabo’s Académie du Feu.
  • 1958 13ème Salon des Réalités Nouvelles, Musée des Beaux-Arts de la Ville de
    Paris.
  • 1959 14ème Salon des Réalités Nouvelles.
  • 1960 Salon de la Jeune Sculpture, Musée Rodin, in Paris.
  • 1961 One man show at the Institut Français d’Athènes; receives an award from
    the Greek Ministry of Education during the VI Pan-Helenic Exhibit, in
    Athens; XVII Salon de Mai, Musée d’Art Moderne de la Ville Paris and
    Salon de la Jeune Sculpture, at the Musée Rodin, Paris; travels to Brazil, as
    part of the delegation of Greek artists in the VI São Paulo International
    Biennial.
  • 1962 Settles down in São Paulo; one man show in Brazil, Galeria São Luiz, in
    São Paulo.
  • 1963 VII São Paulo International Biennial.
  • 1964 One man show Seta Gallery, in São Paulo.
  • 1965 One man show at the Astréia Gallery, in São Paulo; is awarded the
    following prizes: 2nd Prize for Sculpture by the 1st Esso Salon for Young
    Artists, Museum of Modern Art (MAM) in Rio de Janeiro; 1st Prize for
    Sculpture by the XX Fine Arts Municipal Salon, at the Belo Horizonte City
    Council Museum of Art; Acquisition Award by the Brazilian Ministry of
    Foreign Affairs during the VIII São Paulo International Biennial.
  • 1966 One man show at MAM in Rio de Janeiro; I Visual Arts National Biennial, in
    Salvador, where he receives a Special Award.
  • 1967 IX São Paulo International Biennial and the IV Federal District Modern Art
    Salon, in Brasília (he receives an Acquisition Award.
  • 1968 One man show Petite Galerie, Rio de Janeiro.
  • 1969 Starts his teaching career at Visual Arts School of Armando Alvares
    Penteado Foundation (FAAP)
  • 1971 Retrospective exhibition at the Museum of Brazilian Art (MAB) of FAAP, in
    São Paulo.
  • 1972 One man show at the Astréia Gallery, in São Paulo; takes part in the V
    Panorama of Brazilian Art, Sculpture, at MAM, São Paulo, and at the V
    Young Contemporary Art Exhibition, at MAC-USP, São Paulo.
  • 1974 One man show at the Multipla Gallery, in São Paulo; is awarded the State
    Council Award for Culture at the V Paulista Contemporary Art Salon, at the
    São Paulo Biennial Pavilion, and the APCA Award for the Visual Arts.

  • 1975 Is appointed Commissary for the XIII São Paulo International Biennial by
    the Greek Ministry of Culture and Science. III Small Sculpture International
    Biennial, in Budapest, receives the First Prize; VII Panorama Brazilian Art /
    Sculpture, at MAM, São Paulo.
  • 1976 One man show Multipla Gallery, in São Paulo, and travels to Italy for a solo
    exhibition in the Brazilian Embassy Gallery in Rome.
  • 1977 MAC-USP, São Paulo; Goes to Ouro Preto, Minas Gerais, at the invitation
    of the Municipal Council to take part in the I National Meeting of Sculptors.
  • 1978 One man show at Multipla Gallery, in São Paulo; The Object in Art: Brazil in
    the Sixties, at MAB – FAAP, São Paulo. Escultura Nuvens sobre a Cidade
    in Praça da Sé , São Paulo.
  • 1979 Receives the Mário de Andrade Medal by the State Government of São
    Paulo; becomes an Art Council member of the Santa Marcelina Higher
    Education Art School.
  • 1980 One man show Skultura Gallery, in São Paulo, and at Clementina Duarte
    Gallery, in Recife. Takes part in: A Panorama of 20th Century Brazilian
    Sculpture, at SESC Brasílio Machado Neto, São Paulo; Ochenta Años de
    Arte Brasileño, Buenos Aires and Lima; Appointed by the State of São
    Paulo Secretariat for Culture, he becomes a full member of the Supervising
    Council for the State Art Gallery of São Paulo, until 1982.

    Institute Art Gallery, in Washington, DC; Wins the Acquisition Award for the
