Bio

Born in Greece in 1929, Vlavianos left Athens and law school in 1956 for Paris where he studied sculpture as an apprentice to Ossip Zadkine. He was selected to represent Greece in the VI São Paulo Biennial in 1961, and during the next decades, with 22 solo, 38 group, and five museum exhibitions, as well as numerous awards in biennials and salons in several countries, he built a successful international career and immigrated to Brazil where he now teaches and works. This is Vlavianos’ fourth one man exhibition at Kouros.

Considered one of Brazil’s most noted contemporary sculptors, he has exhibited widely in South America and Europe as well as the United States. Over the years, Vlavianos’ forms have undergone a constant process of renewal while at the same time maintaining a forceful and identifiable structure.

His work is in the collections of numerous private individuals and prominent institutional collections, including the Museu de Arte Moderna, São Paulo, Brazil, and the Ministry of Education of Greece.
