Born in 1940 near Athens,
Vari lives and works in Italy, Paris, and New York. Influenced by her international
adolesence, she took an early interest in art, particularly in sculpture, chiefly
identifying with cubism and surrealism, as well as sculpture from the Mayan,
Egyptian, Olmec, and Cycladic traditions, Greek antiquity and the Baroque.
Her sculpture, even
in at its most abstract, is suggestive of the human form. Also a painter, Vari
embellishes her bronze or marble works with diffuse coloration to create positive
and negative relief, adding a sense of shadow and light to the curvilinear compositions.
Vari attended Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris and has exhibited internationally for over 30 years. Major solo and group exhibitors include the Museu de Arte Moderna, Sao Paulo, Brazil; The Butler Institute of American Art, Youngstown, Ohio; Ludwig Museum, Kombletz, Germany; Benaki Museum, Athens, Greece; and Museo de Arte Moderno, Sevilla, Spain, among many other notable arts institutions.
